The Seed Bali

With their earth-friendly architecture, closed-loop eco-systems and untouched nature at every turn, these are my favourite eco hotels in Bali. After staying at countless eco-friendly hotels in Bali, I’ve seen what real sustainability looks like – and I’ve also seen what’s just good marketing. But the resorts on this list go far beyond the buzzwords. They’re the real deal: from rainwater harvesting and permaculture gardens, to low-impact bamboo architecture that blends seamlessly with nature. I’ve stayed at these eco hotels in Bali, I’ve seen the way they operate, and I didn’t see a shred of plastic throughout my stay. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly resort in Bali that actually lives up to the label, these are the ones I’d personally recommend for 2025.

The Seed

If the world was ending and you had to hole up somewhere amazing, you’d want it to be The Seed Bali. You see, when we were lucky enough to stay at this beachfront estate, we chatted to the owner, Logan, who told us how The Seed was first conceptualised during the pandemic. It was built as an off-grid commune for his friends and family to escape to while the world went mad. But today, this wildly creative, eco-friendly property in Candidasa can be rented exclusively for you and your crew.

Throughout the tropical grounds, there are four individually-designed villas, all crafted from reclaimed wood and sustainable, local materials. But that’s not all. As part of The Seed’s closed-loop ecosystem, they harvest rainwater, compost food scraps, filter greywater through banana trees, and operate as low-impact as possible. The permaculture gardens supply the onsite restaurant, and everything is built with minimal concrete and maximum care for the land. It really felt like an off-grid hideaway, and we didn’t want to leave.

What’s so impressive is, they’ve matched sustainability with serious fun. We woke up with yoga in the sea-view yoga shala, before hauling margaritas into the treetop bar. There’s also an underground sauna and ice bath, an all-natural outdoor gym, a soundproof karaoke den, treehouse maze, and a dive plank. Even our villa merged with a waterfall! Eco-friendly, yes. But never boring…

Good to know: The Seed is totally private, so you have to book the entire estate for your stay (you can’t rent rooms individually).
Local tip: The Seed can sleep up to 21 people, but some of the beds are best suited for kids (e.g bunkbeds). So I would say, 16 adults could sleep here comfortably.
Address: Candidasa, East Bali.
